Refugee Week 2010

Refugee Week 2010 will take place from 14 to 20 June and there will be free events and activities happening around Salford for everyone to come and celebrate together.
Salford Refugee Week is now in its fourth year and is part of a wider UK programme of arts, cultural and educational events that celebrate the contribution of refugees to the UK arts, culture, economy and wider society and encourages a better understanding between communities.
The week also aims to show the proud history of Britain in welcoming people escaping terrible situations in their home countries and to get rid of some of the myths that fly around about refugee and asylum seekers. Most of all it is about Salford coming together to show that it is a welcoming city.

You can also hear (via a portable CD player) refugee voices from Rwanda, Afghanistan and Palestine interacting with border immigration officials and the media.
